It’s interesting to see what happens in an airplane sitting for hours on a tarmac. In our case, many people fell asleep. Right now, for example, Andrea is working on her blog, Jim is playing a computer game, Chris is slumped in the window seat in my row sleeping (he’d been working on a paper for quite a while and his computer is still sitting on the dining tray), and Jennifer is taking advantage of having a whole row of seats to herself to lift up the armrests, stretch out and sleep. Carole's asleep back at the rear of the plane.
Meanwhile, a man behind me is rearranging some business affairs and getting pretty upset about the delay (it’s about 4½ hours at this point). He’s Indian, in fact our group contains all the non-Indians on this plane, which currently includes about 90 passengers. A woman in the first of the economy rows (there’s only one couple in first class, sharing all 28 seats) is hushing her small child, a remarkably pretty little girl about a year old. Most of the others are sleeping with the man behind me the most active. He’s now asked to get off the plane; the hangup seems to be his checked luggage.
